Roof Restoration RIP OFF
REPORTING The Roofing Group Ltd, James Clark (if that’s his real name), also marketing himself under the business name The Roofing Group Oz Pty Ltd of ABN 34 679 597 338. It is our unfortunate responsibility to advise everyone in this industry DO NOT DO BUSINESS with ‘James’. We paid $5000 to have our tiled roof sealed and painted by ‘James’. The result of the job was poor with a very uneven finish and areas with visibly poor cover. After several weeks trying to contact ‘James’, to request a review of his work, he finally returned our calls only after another business, with a very similar name, posted to a professional group on Facebook, about our experience. He then apologised profusely and promised to either give us our money back (or most of it) or allow him some time to save some money and he would come back and remedy the finish, which he agreed was sub-standard. We believe in giving people every chance to do the right thing so agreed to give a few weeks for him to be able to do the repairs. He stayed in contact for about three weeks and again has gone silent; unresponsive to our many contacts for the last six weeks. We have given ‘James’ every opportunity to fix his POOR WORKMANSHIP, yet despite his promises he has not delivered. We must, as reasonable people, take the steps we are now taking and advise everyone NOT TO DEAL with The Roofing Group Oz, ‘James’, and his business. Thankyou.
Responsive and professional
We had an issue with a plumbing issue at our Small Business. We found it hard to find someone who could do the job in a timely manner, but Bee Wise plumbing were local and were able to fit us in. Very thankful
Overpriced, unprofessional, defective pool, poor management. Avoid
We have had a terrible experience with SCE Pools.
Our pool was commissioned in November 2021 and we have been fighting the husband and wife owners who want to avoid taking responsibility for their defective work, since then. A large section of our pool does not have adequate water flow, due to incorrect plumbing. The male owner admitted that there was insufficient water flow in person (audio recorded by QBCC) but has not fixed it (attempted to with a larger pump but that didn’t work as he doesn’t seem to understand flow rates and friction loss in pipes).
Despite the fact that the QBCC inspector and an independent building inspector stated that there was insufficient water circulation, as well as a hydraulic engineer showing why (allegedly poor plumbing design), the male and female owners are continuing to deny there is a problem.
QBCC advised that this is a contractual issue, so we lodged it with QCAT. The owner informed myself and QBCC in writing that the delay in fixing our pool was due to his “personal issues”. He then changed his mind and advised in legal correspondence that it is due to the pool not being defective. Our auto-filler in the pool has also never worked.
My lawyer applied to join the owner of Sunshine Coast Excavations personally so that they cannot hide behind the company and just go bankrupt. My lawyer also applied to move the matter from QCAT to the District Court of Queensland. The lawyer acting for SCE Pools opposed that application and lost. Thankfully we are now in a costs jurisdiction, and this company and the director/s will be held responsible and fully accountable. I intend to continue to let people know that this company acts unethically and avoids taking responsibility for faulty work. Other people need to be warned!
Collateral damage to a faulty pool was damage to our front door, side fence, and front drain. To top it off, they were the most expensive quote we had (out of 3 quotes) and came highly recommended.
QBCC also advised that their contract is not compliant with QBCC regulations and were investigated for the contract and taking an excessive deposit. It took QBCC nearly a year to hold the owner accountable for these 2 issues but they have since ruled against the owner of SCE Pools. See QBCC record attached.
Learn from our defective pool and build a concrete pool with someone else.
No 1 Rip off merchant, taking advantage of seniors
This lowlife, Yacoub Haydari ABN: 53 629 407 118, ripped me off to the tune of 35,000 dollars.
I am an eighty-year-old woman living in an inner suburb of Melbourne.
After a quote from this individual, we signed a contract for the works on April 6, 2024.
I paid him a deposit, and he kept asking for more money until he had the entire amount in his pocket. Then he left the whole job in an unsatisfactory condition and did not finish the job as agreed in the contract. He has since disconnected his phone and is unable to be contacted.
I warn anyone who encounters this person, DO NOT under any circumstances hire him for any work, as he will only take money from you and not finish the work agreed upon.
This situation has put me under a great deal of stress and caused health problems.
I have since found another contractor to finish the job, but in the ned it cost me double.
Dishonest operators
This husband and wife team are a dishonest pair. They have all but closed up shop so hopefully there are no more victims. Now selling up their home and using people’s hard earned money to travel Australia in their big ute and caravan. Talk about running away from a bad reputation of dishonesty, aggression, lies, and legal battles. Do not use this company for pool works or concreting. We are not the only victims either – we have spoken to others who have had absolutely awful experiences with this company.
Dodgy roofer
Owner of this company is UNLICENSED. Great communication when he wants the work, turns up and does the quote on time. Half way through the job (as he had removed most of the sheets off roof) phones to say the old roof is too bad and needs full replacement. The quoted price $4500, had to pay another $5500 – Total of $10,000 to do the job which was a car port roof only. He chased me from that afternoon for full payment. Then the roof leaked like a sieve from the very first shower of rain. Wouldn’t return phone calls, texts, email account bounced. Mailed letter even was returned. DO NOT USE THIS GUY.
Does not install hot water systems inline with Australian Standards
I had engaged “JB” from Pittwater & Warringah Plumbing back in 2023 to replace a hot water system (on my father’s property), with a new one which he provided.
As I’m NOT a qualified plumber, I was under the impression that the work he did was done in accordance with Australian Standards. It wasn’t !!! I did not discover this until almost 2 years later, when I had other plumbing work done, and the plumber passed comment that the hot water system was NOT installed according to legislation. There was NO tempering valve !!
Attempted to contact the contractor over a period of weeks, prior to lodging a complaint. All I heard back was “crickets” …. NO reply. A case was raised with the Dept of fair Trading / Building Commission with photographic evidence and other proof, that clearly showed NO tempering valve.
The Contractor only responded to the Building Commission with a response that all his workmanship is done according to standards.
If you want a professional plumbing job done, DO NOT go with Pittwater & Warringah Plumbing. With PWP you are running a risk of the job not being done properly and them taking no accountability or responsibility.
All I can say …. Keep a wide berth away from Pittwater & Warringah Plumbing.
Stay away
Stay away
Went AWOL after deposit was paid.
Still dealing with his poor Workmanship. Cost me tens of thousands on top to fix his work.
STEER CLEAR
I strongly advise against engaging Broadhurst Civil Pty Ltd based on my experience.
In 2023, the company constructed a concrete retaining wall at the rear of our property at a cost of $23,000. The project was significantly delayed, with multiple changes to scheduled dates. The contractor requested payment prior to completion, which I declined.
Although the wall was eventually completed and covered by a 6.5-year warranty, serious structural issues have now emerged just two years later. The retaining wall—supporting a fence—is visibly leaning and appears to be on the verge of collapsing into the neighbouring property.
Since February 5, 2025, I have made over a dozen attempts to resolve this, including sending numerous emails with photos, making more than fifteen phone calls, and even meeting with Joel from the company, who acknowledged the issue and advised urgent repairs were necessary. Despite this, no remedial work has been undertaken.
Given the lack of action or resolution, I am now considering legal proceedings as the only viable course of action.
WARNING
WARNING: DO NOT HIRE JAMES CLARK (possibly an alias) FROM THE ROOFING GROUP OZ PTY LTD
James Clark, along with his associate Drew (also known as Rob), are scammers. James has even referred to someone named “Michael” as his business partner.
At the time of my research, this so-called “legitimate” company had 14 positive reviews on HiPages, but the link to those reviews has since been removed. Further investigation revealed multiple complaints filed with the Office of Fair Trading, and it’s come to light that James has scammed people not only in Queensland, but also in Western Australia.
James was hired to restore my roof, based on a detailed quote for a comprehensive job. The scope of work included cleaning the roof, removing dirt, grime, moss, and flaking paint, replacing rusted bolts and screws, repairing and replacing lead work around flutes and chimneys, and restoring valleys with a K1 70 epoxy resin. The job also included applying a rust-proof primer, two coats of colorbond paint, and a sealer to complete the roof restoration. All labour and materials were guaranteed for 10 years, at a cost of AU$5500. This agreement was completed and paid for on 06/02/2025.
While the garage and deck roof were not part of the original quote, James offered to complete them for an additional $1500 in cash whilst he was here, with no pressure to pay immediately. Regrettably, I accepted this offer.
After hearing from other victims of James Clark’s fraudulent practices, there is now confirmation that he did not perform the work as per the original quote as I have since gotten another quote to replace the roof and the photos taken confirmation the following – the roof was not properly cleaned, and it’s clear that no bolts or screws were replaced as claimed. Additionally, the lead work around the flutes and chimneys has not been fixed, as well as holes not repaired as evidenced by the persistent dripping sound during rain. The job, which was supposed to take two days, was completed in less than one.
After the job was completed and paid for, after a few days, overspray was found a my car, casement windows, and parts of the garage and deck railing and email was sent to James – he replied extremely apologetic and promised to fix the damage making a time to suit. When texting to confirm the time the day before, was told he was on the Gold Coast doing a job and he would come the next week.
Due to no shows I ended up fixing the car myself and when I emailed him – he offered a $200 discount off the outstanding $1500 owed. The overspray on the house remains unaddressed.
Further complicating matters, Drew/Rob informed me that James had fallen off a roof in Darwin, despite James previously stating he was going to a job in NSW. They claimed James’s wife instructed them to collect the outstanding money, but I made it clear that the leaks still needed fixing before any further payments were made.
Drew/Rob then falsely claimed that two team members had come to fix the leak, despite me being at home and unable to leave due to illness. When pressed, Drew/Rob gaslighted me, denying the truth and making accusations of dishonesty.
I immediately emailed James, who offered to waive the remaining $1300, and promised that his “partner” Michael would be in touch within 10 days to resolve the leak and mould damage. However, 10 days came and went without any follow-up. After several unanswered emails and phone calls, I began digging deeper and uncovered multiple negative reviews and complaints about James Clark and his team. It is clear that James Clark and his associates are deceitful and untrustworthy.
If you have had similar experiences with this company, I strongly recommend reporting them to the following authorities: the Office of Fair Trading, QBCC, ATO (for suspected tax evasion), Google, Trustpilot, and ProductReview.

Amazing Electrical Team. Awesome battery install
Had a fantastic experience with my solar panel installation! The team was efficient, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. Their knowledge made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Sam was especially helpful — always available to answer questions over the phone and went above and beyond to ensure everything ran seamlessly. The products are top quality and offered at a great price. Highly recommend if you’re looking for reliable service and great value!
Job unfinished, terrible quality & big clean up for us
Brett Matthew Connor – AKA Matt C. on Airtasker
He’s currently going by the name ‘Matt C.’ on Airtasker, but by the looks of it he may have be booted off at least once so I’d avoid any combination of those names (Matthew C / Brett C / Bret C / Matt C etc.).
In hindsight there were a lot of red flags, but I’d posted a job twice and he was the only one who replied. He has several different phone numbers he uses, had zero reviews on Airtasker and wanted to do the job off of their platform. Don’t be tempted.
He did turn up and do a few sessions at our place. But I wish he hadn’t bothered. He’s a really awful tradesman and did an absolute hacksaw job. Nothing is straight, there’s plaster everywhere, nails sticking out of walls, uneven finishes, mess all over the place. He likely had no intention of completing the job, but turned up just enough to get some cash in his pocket and leave the place an absolute bomb site which will likely cost more to fix than before he started.
We also have young children (which he knew) and he left on the first day with a cigarette lighter lying on the floor in the middle of our 3 your olds bedroom, and nails all over the floor in the halls and in the front garden. There’s also rubbish and a pile or sharp wood all over the garden right next to our kids play area. He even left a pair of dirty boxers on the front lawn. Cheers for that Brett.
He’s extremely messy, absolutely awful at communicating, I constantly had no idea what he was doing or if he was going to show up the next day to continue, he’s blunt, rude, and an all round unprofessional bloke. And for the work he actually did whilst he was here its clear he either doesn’t care enough to try, or is just terrible on the tools (which is more likely).
If he pops up as a response to a job request of yours on Airtasker do yourself a huge favour and don’t engage with him. Luckily our job was a reasonably small one, so whilst we’ve lost money and will need to pay more to fix the mess he’s made, it doesn’t sound as bad as some of the others on this feed.
Dishonest Contractor
Agree with all bonus he will give in the beginning in order to get your order. 50% money provided initially to get the job start but delayed upon weeks before actual start. Fast to chase for money but late to work. Leave mess on site. Won’t fulfil any agreed bonus in the beginning.
Miss out lots of steps in artificial turf install. No silica sand, no joining tape. Claiming it is not required but still charge a premium for the job that is comparable to other contractor that do professional job.
Warning – cowboy with a spray gun. PERTH, BRISBANE, DARWIN BEWARE.
This guys does not have a head office like the website says. Its just a one man band who moves around Australia ripping people off. I hired James Clark to restore my roof. He promised it would look “like new”–an exaggeration I expected, but I at least anticipated a professional job. James is not a licensed roofer, not registered with the QBCC, nor a member of Master Builders as his website claims. He also promised warranties, which I never received (despite 2 emails confirming I would). He began work on a rainy day, applied one coat of paint to a wet roof, and ignored the two-day process he originally described. He left paint overspray on my new decking, which I had warned him about and even provided a tarp for–now it needs re-sanding and re-staining at my cost. No actual roof repairs were done, and parts are visibly lifting. He strung me along with excuses about paint suppliers and promised for over a month to return or refund. This morning, he was supposed to come with his brother-in-law Rob to do gutters–confirmed via text–but neither showed, and both phones are now disconnected. He may now be working in Darwin. If you’re reading this from there, consider yourself warned. He is personable, persuasive, and demands full payment upfront, then disappears. I have screenshots, emails, voicemails, and video as proof. I have screenshots of other peoples reviews who have had the same experience.
